Chickens, and turkeys, and eggs, oh my!

Today, LotFotL inches closer and closer to becoming a serious 1-stop shopping location for the good people of the greater Milwaukee area!

We're pleased to announce the beginning of an egg CSA! Starting in Mid May, LotFotL will have eggs available for delivery to CSA drop off locations. The birds in question, doing all this egg-laying business, graze the well tended pastured of the Tirpstra family's homestead, just outside of Delavan, WI. In the past Jenny and Chuck have even gone to the expense of growing the grains that their birds rely on! While not certified organic, these birds have ample space to roam about the yard, play with the children, and live highly dignified lives. Feed for these birds is secured from a nearby dairy farm that Chuck works at, or is bought from as local of sources as possible. The eggs are brown, jumbo, deep in yolk color, and bound to outperform any eggs even the most choice grocers have to offer. We will run a 16 week season in 2010 as a trial, with good possibilities of being able to deliver eggs for the entire CSA season. So for now:

We're not done there

We will also have meat birds for sale in 2010! These birds will live and thrive on the same farm as the laying hens, but for a shorter amount of time. The birds will be sold frozen, and whole. Exact prices have not been set, but we expect about $3/lb, and quite likely 3lb birds. We should know more in the next couple of days. For now, if chickens are something you'd like to see at your CSA drop off location, let us know how many you'd think you'd like in a year. We need to order them soon.

Turkeys for thanksgiving!

This thanksgiving, don't try to hide the Tyson wrapper in that back corner of the garbage can, show off that thanksgiving bird! LotFotL will have turkeys to offer for thanksgiving in 2010! We're ordering about 30 for this year, which is not many. If you know tomorrow that you'd like one, it won't hurt to get your name in. These will not last long.

More info on the birds as it comes to us. I was simply too excited to hold out!
